Feature Highlight: Road & XC Results on OpenTrack
Getting road and cross country results into OpenTrack has never been simpler
After we introduced the benefits of taking entries for road and cross country races on OpenTrack last week, it’s only natural to follow up with the benefits of adding results for your competition.
Whether working from chip timing, our road/XC results input, or just a clipboard, putting results into OpenTrack means they will be visible to all in an interactive format for free, forever.
Chip Timing — Integration for RaceTec and RaceResults
If your event makes use of chip timing, it’s easier than ever to make sure your results make their way onto OpenTrack.
We are integrated with two chip timing market leaders in RaceResult and RaceRec, and setting things up is as easy as configuring a few settings behind the scenes.
Once you’re all set up, results will flow into OpenTrack, and you’ll be able to make use of all of the wider features that can really add an edge to your competition (more on those below).
If you are using another chip timing platform, adding results can still be trivial — feel free to get in touch and see how we can make things work for you.
Recording in OpenTrack — Using our road and cross country ‘app’
If you are organising a smaller race, our in-browser app for recording road or cross country races could be the solution.
With a variety of modes to accommodate any finish-line scenario, from sole recorder to a crack team of officials, our documentation contains all you need to know.
Flexible and scalable, the best part is the simplicity, and with a few trusted marshals or officials out on the course doing some recording, you can get live splits more akin to an international championships than a grassroots race!
Benefits — After the results are in
Competition Scoring
With results in OpenTrack, you have access to a whole world of scoring features.
Our configurable scoring contains more flexibility than we could reasonably explain here — the Covid-era Virtual National Road Relay Championships contains some great examples of what can be done.
Integrated with World Masters Athletics age grading factors, you can even compare performances across races, age groups, and genders — the English Masters Inter-Area Cross Country used this to great effect when awarding prizes earlier this year.

Socials graphics
If allowing athletes to share their achievements far and wide is your goal, or you’re eager to spread the word about your own competition, our social media graphics make life easy.

Cross country or road, team scores or individual performances, Instagram or elsewhere, we’ve got you covered for graphics of (literally) all shapes and sizes!
We’re also able to customise these for any competition, including sponsor logos, custom colours, or different athlete data — get in touch to see how it might work for you!
Season Scoring
As well as scoring athletes or teams within competitions, for leagues and competition series taking place over a longer period, season scores can make it trivial to see who’s putting in consistently strong performances.

With rankings available for both individuals and clubs, take a look at the Oxford League women’s standings after two matches for an example of how things are shaping up!
World Athletics Results Integration (coming early 2024)
For those organisers lucky enough to have their competitions featured on the World Athletics Calendar, you’ll soon be able to send results straight to the world governing body, and ensure your athletes get those ever-valuable ranking points!
In the final stages of testing, you’ll soon be able to send off results with the click of a button at the end of your competition.
While not strictly a results-related feature, applying for World Athletics competition permits directly through OpenTrack is also in the pipeline — allowing you to set up your competitions in two places with just one process.
With entries and results now covered for a full picture of using OpenTrack for road and cross country events, we hope it’s clearer than ever how to make your life easier and enhance athlete and fan experience at your events!
As always, if you have any feedback, requests, or want help bringing your athletics into the 21st century, feel free to get in touch at info@opentrack.run.
