Feature Improvement: Competitor Pages
Ever looked at an OpenTrack results page and wondered what happens if you click on the athlete's name, or bib number?
While we’re of the rather unbiased opinion that an OpenTrack results pages look pretty good on their own — take the Mondo Duplantis world record below, for example — sometimes you might want a bit more.
In such a scenario, look no further than OpenTrack’s competitor page. Accessible anywhere you see a competitor’s name listed in Track Red, our new-look screen has a wealth of information about your favourite athletes, friends, family, or sporting rivals.
While you can take a look at Mondo’s here, a lack of photos of the Swedish vaulter in our in-house picture archive means we’ll look elsewhere to demonstrate the features on offer.
Getting into the details — Profile boxes
Perfectly illustrated here by British international Issy Boffey, seen in action here at the OpenTrack-hosted University of Birmingham Track and Field Series, is the main box of our competitor page.
Whilst the number of buttons may occasionally make you feel like you are at the controls of a nuclear power plant — each serves a vital purpose in giving you as much information as possible.
For competitors with a linked record in our database, the OpenTrack button will take you to their athlete profile page, giving details outside of the specific competition (more on that coming soon).
For competitors who have links to any of the three organisations above in our database, we offer an easy route to their profile pages elsewhere.
What’s happening? — Listing events
Hopefully University of Birmingham Track and Field Festival decathlon winner Callum Newby won’t mind us using him (and his rather impressive 7172 points) as an example of our event listing features.
With easy links to each event the competitor is entered for, it’s never been easier to find out what your favourite athletes are up to.
Though Callum’s page is awash with ticks, his results from July this year having long since been made official, a competitor page viewed during competition will show the stage an event is at, all the way from start list to official results.
Combined events also benefit from the same treatment, with their own special table — making sure you can get straight to the standings.
Enough stats yet? — Tilastopaja integration
For the large number of athletes in our database whose profiles are linked with our friends over at Tilastopaja, we have a number of features making the most of the connection.
Form Guide
If a competition is using our form guide feature, you may see information like that shown on the competitor page of 2023 Night of the 10K PBs men’s race winner Paul Chelimo, highlighting the athlete’s three best recent performances.
Athlete History
Available for all competitions, any athlete with a connected Tilastopaja profile will have a complete history at the bottom of their competitor page.
Scrolling down will give you a list of years for which the athlete has performances, each one expandable for full details of each result on record.
That’s enough for now, don’t you think?
We hope you will make the best use possible of our new-look competitor pages, and we will continue to develop features, bringing you closer to the action.
