New Feature: World Athletics Timing API Integration
Making the most of the options available as World Athletics looks to share athletics stats far and wide
It might only be one week into the new year, but we’ve already put together a big package of upgrades, focused on growing our integration with World Athletics’ timing API.
There’s plenty to sink your teeth into in this newsletter, and more on the way, so keep an eye out around the place for new improvements as we get further into the year!
World Rankings Display
With athletes’ world rankings positions now readily available, we’re integrating these in any and all places they might be useful.
Competitor Pages
On competitor pages, for any athlete within a competition, world rankings are now on show.
Best illustrated here by Jessica Warner-Judd, who sits in the world’s top 40 in three event groups, any competitor who has a connected World Athletics ID and a current world ranking position will have the information proudly displayed on their page.
Athlete Pages
It’s a similar story over on our athlete pages - the data shown will update week-to-week as athletes shift up and down over the course of a season.
Start Lists and Results
As well as being able to display athletes’ world rankings on individual pages, equally valuable is having an athlete’s world ranking showing in start lists and results — making it easy to see when elite athletes are competing.
Our PB lookup function now adds competitors’ world ranking positions for the events they have entered into our database — we hope to be displaying these for all to see not too far in the future!
Statistics Integration
For those familiar with our PB lookup for managing their competitions, we’ve added an extra layer behind the scenes to also capture an athlete’s person and season’s bests from World Athletics, as well as Tilastopaja (and the Power of 10 in the UK).
With even more information at your fingertips when using OpenTrack, seeding athletes using the most up-to-date information possible should be a breeze.
All-time and Top Lists
With World Athletics providing us with key ranking lists, we’re able to display the current or the all-time top 10 in any World Athletics-recognised event, and it’s all over at data.opentrack.run/wa/.
Make use of quick links for the most regularly used events, or click through to see the full list.
For athletes we’re able to match with World Athletics, you’ll also be able to click through to their profile for a fuller, more OpenTrack-oriented look at things, including their competition history!
We hope that these new features enhance your use of OpenTrack, and would love to hear your thoughts on what might make our World Athletics integration even better.
As always, if you have any feedback, requests, or want help bringing your athletics into the 21st century, feel free to get in touch at info@opentrack.run.
