OpenTrack Case Study: Berkshire, Buckinghamshire & Oxfordshire XC
Looking at a successful OpenTrack debut at the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire & Oxfordshire Cross Country Championships
At OpenTrack HQ, we’re convinced OpenTrack can simplify and streamline organising competitions, and we’re always thrilled to share success stories, so this week we bring you a case study of the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire & Oxfordshire Cross Country Championships.

Finally, the Results

Used for the first time by the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire & Oxfordshire Cross Country Association (BBOCCA) at this year’s championships, OpenTrack allowed athletes to enter online for the first time in the championships’ 100-year plus history.
With 440 entries from athletes across three counties, and competitors in the U11s all the way up to V70s, we’re delighted to have played a small part in helping grow entry numbers for the historic championships.
Getting Set Up
As with taking entries for any new competition on OpenTrack, the first steps were to set up a Stripe account, and create and configure the competition — a simple task for the BBOCCA committee, and with our newly-overhauled documentation, something that’s never been easier.
Once competition setup was complete, configuring entries was a breeze — with price modifiers set up to discount entries for young athletes, and UKA licence validation taking all the effort out of checking athlete registrations, it was time to open entries!

Processing Entries With Ease
Moving from processing paper forms to online entries eliminated the need to check the status of athletes’ competition licences, or check that bank transfers had been completed when entry forms were submitted — with OpenTrack, a completed entry means the money is on the way to your bank account!
Individual athletes being able to enter themselves meant less administrative burden for clubs, and hopefully was responsible for at least part of the uptick in entries — roughly double the number entering the championships two years ago!
It was fantastic having OpenTrack and allowing individuals as well as Team Managers process entries, it really helped boost entry numbers from the previous couple of years.
Phil Marshall, BBOCCA Committee Member
Also of use was OpenTrack’s competitor mass mailing functionality, enabling the BBOCCA committee to send out final competition information to all those entered, and ensure things ran smoothly on the day!
Finally, the Results
Provisional results from the championships are now available, with the senior races being won by Joe Morrow and Jess Gibbon, both athletes with illustrious competition records, and extensive OpenTrack histories!
Being able to play a small part in helping to make this year’s Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Cross Country Championships a success was a pleasure, and we would be delighted to do the same for your competition — just let us know your plans, and we’re happy to assist.
