What is a Performance on OpenTrack Worth?
Highlighting OpenTrack's functionality to calculate and display World Athletics and Raza points
OpenTrack is continuing to make it easy to compare performances, and this week we’re putting the spotlight on World Athletics and Raza points display, after bringing you updated and improved age grade scoring last week.
In this update:
World athletics points integration
Scoring using World Athletics points
Raza points for para athletics
With automatic calculation as soon as a result is saved in OpenTrack, finding the best performance across a competition using World Athletics points, or comparing results across para athletics categories using Raza points is simple.
World Athletics points integration
World Athletics’ scoring tables have existed for quite some time, but with the addition in recent years of the World Rankings, they have gained even more importance, making up the result score portion of an athlete’s ranking performance.
Although the maths behind these is not officially published, World Athletics have given us permission to use them, and we now show a points value for every performance in standard athletics events.

As an example, take a look at this women’s 800 metres from the University of Birmingham in June 2023, where everyone scored more than 1000 points!
Scoring using World Athletics points
Now the business of calculating points is dealt with, we’re able to use them to make any manner of scoring system, giving you another way teams can compete against each other in OpenTrack.

If scoring based on World Athletics points is something that might improve your competitions, feel free to get in touch and see how we can make it work for you.
Raza points for para athletics
Raza points, developed by Masoom Raza for UK Athletics roughly 15 years ago, allows para athletes to compare performances across classifications, useful for mixed classification competitions where the athlete who threw the furthest or ran the fastest might not be the gold medallist.
As an example, take a look at the men’s ambulant shot put at this year’s Welsh Championships, where the leading Raza point scorer is in fourth place when ranked by distance.
Note on classifications
For UK athletes, we try to fetch the athlete’s classification from the Power of 10 as they enter, but otherwise classifications need to be added manually. If you have a large para athletics competition, we’re able to bulk load classifications for you.
We hope that our World Athletics and Raza points features make your competitions even easier to run — if you’d like to see additional functionality built on top to make your life easier, just let us know.
