OpenTrack News: Not the World Indoor Championships
A few updates from the athletics world that don't come from next to the River Clyde
After a thrilling weekend of athletics up in Glasgow, (and a distinctly unproductive Friday last week), we’re back ready to work on making athletics run more smoothly for you.
Like Noah Lyles running a leg of the 4x400, feel free to get stuck into something slightly longer than you’re used to, as we have plenty to tell you about this week.
Signings
After hosting their National Championships on OpenTrack in mid-February, we are delighted to have signed a contract to provide our Federation Management System to Moldova, helping to digitise athletics in yet another country.
Also soon to be making use of OpenTrack’s FMS are Gibraltar, managing their competitions across road, cross country, and track and field, including this year’s Championships of the Small States of Europe.
For those of you keeping count, that brings our total up to well over a dozen countries and territories across Europe, and we look forward to adding more as the year progresses!
Local Languages
As part of making OpenTrack even friendlier to use in countries who don’t use Latin script, we’ve been working on making sure our PDF and web display is capable of showing the most relevant names for you.
PDF-wise, see this example of field cards from last week’s Cypriot Winter Throws National Championships:
With your chosen language determining what you see, make sure to select the correct language from our fairly extensive list!
We’re always happy to allow new translators to contribute to making OpenTrack more accessible for all — if this is you, and you’d like to see OpenTrack work better in your language, please do let us know.
Non-scorers
We’ve also been making sure that if you have non-scoring athletes in your competition, you’ll be able to display results the way that you want.
The above checkbox allows you to either keep athletes showing in performance order, but with non-scoring athletes not placed, or to send your non-scorers all the way to the bottom if desired!
With the ability to mark athletes as non-scorers for a whole competition, or just for a single event, there should be all the configurability you need.
Coming up next…
Far from the glamorous side of things, but hopefully of use to readers of this newsletter, is a planned overhaul of our docs.
With the goal of providing clearer information and making it even easier to use OpenTrack, we are revamping every single page of our documentation over the coming days and weeks.
Poll of the week
Please do let us know if there’s anything you’d like to see in our reworked docs, or if there’s anything else OpenTrack can do to make your lives easier.
As always, if you have any feedback, requests, or want help bringing your athletics into the 21st century, feel free to get in touch at info@opentrack.run.
