OpenTrack Update: Entry Journey Improvements & More
Entries are what power competitions, and we've been working on making ours even smoother
This week we’re delighted to introduce a bunch of improvements to OpenTrack’s individual entry journey, making it even easier for competitors to enter your competitions, and much more besides.
In this update:
Entry journey improvements
Chip timing integration and other features
Other competition management improvements
Also contained within are upgrades to the mass mailing features available to organisers, successful use of our chip timing integration, and improvements to how event entry limits work.
Entry journey improvements
This week’s major change is a revamp of our entire individual entry journey, used by the majority of athletes when entering competitions on OpenTrack.
We’ve scrutinised every step, and are busy making improvements, with plenty ticked off already.
Breadcrumbs
There’s now no longer a need to click through an entry in search of the one specific section you want to edit — just click on the step and be taken straight there!
Basket improvements
The entry basket is now simpler for those looking to enter multiple athletes, with the Add Athlete button featured prominently, and editing existing entries is now much clearer with the addition of the edit icon.
Additionally, competitors whose entry cannot be completed for some reason can be resolved with ease, with clear warning messages shown underneath a highlighted athlete.
Coming soon
We’re still hard at work streamlining the entry journey, with improvements to athlete selection and more, so watch this space — if there’s anything you’d like to see improved, just get in touch.
Chip timing integration and other features
We’re now into December, and that means that the start of a new athletics year has crept up on us.
We couldn’t be more thrilled to see a variety of OpenTrack features in use across the world, and this past weekend saw:
Configurable scoring used at Scottish Athletics’ East, West, and North District XC championships
Pre-configured match scoring used at the London Universities and Colleges Indoor Championships
League functionality used in the 2nd round of the Oxfordshire League
Chip timing integration used at the British Masters 5K Championships

Other competition management improvements
Mass mailing
OpenTrack’s mass mailing functionality makes it easy for organisers to get in touch with anyone who has entered their competition, and this week has seen a major facelift, as we’ve now gone beyond the bare HTML used previously.
With a new OpenTrack-standard template, your messages to competitors will look professional and sleek, whatever you want to say!
Event limit changes
We’ve also made improvements to how we calculate entries into an event against event limits, including all competitors, and updated the display of this information on public and private screens.

We’re constantly working to make OpenTrack better for you, and we’d love to have your input on how these changes could be improved and make your life easier — just let us know.
